Hi - My first post here...It should be simple... But it it's not...In my office other people take care of all sql servers. (with SSAS, SSRS etc)We are a group of BI-developers, and we just want our PC's to have SQL Management Studio and Visual Studio 2012 (with Data Tools)How come that MS has made this so complicated. Most people end up with server components, visual 2010 components and other stuff that should not be there.Just to find the right MSI's is a complicated job by itself..It is way to complicated for what should be a simple task.Am I alone with this point of view ? Does anyone agree ?Does anyone have a link to at good description ?Regards from Copenhagen - Have a nice week-end :-)

my question is can I create a link server from a SQL server 2008r2 to SQL server 2012sp1. I am getting the following error after I create the link server and try do a simple query. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "lf3" returned message "Client unable to establish connection due to prelogin failure".Msg 121, Level 16, State 1, Line 0TCP Provider: The semaphore timeout period has expired.OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "lf3" returned message "Client unable to establish connection".Msg 26, Level 16, State 1, Line 0Client unable to establish connection because an error was encountered during handshakes before login. Common causes include client attempting to connect to an unsupported version of SQL Server, server too busy to accept new connections or a resource limitation (memory or maximum allowed connections) on the server. Is this a compatibility problem or connection problem.
